PeaceJob Terms of Service

Version 1.0.0-draft, 21 September 2026. This is a draft that has not yet been reviewed by a South African attorney. It will be replaced by a reviewed version, and you will be asked to accept that version before it applies to you.

1. Who we are

PeaceJob is operated by Peace Job App (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in South Africa.

In these terms, "PeaceJob", "we" and "us" mean Peace Job App (Pty) Ltd. "You" means the person or company that holds a PeaceJob account. These terms apply to the PeaceJob app on Android, iOS and the web.

2. What PeaceJob is, and what it is not

PeaceJob is a technology platform. It lets people and companies who need work done (Employers) find, message, book and pay people who do that work (Seekers).

PeaceJob is not an employer, a labour broker, an employment agency or a contractor. We do not hire Seekers, supervise their work, set their hours or decide whether a job is done well. Using PeaceJob does not create an employment relationship between you and PeaceJob, and PeaceJob owes no wages, leave, UIF contributions or other employment benefits to anyone because of work found through the app.

The Employer and the Seeker agree the work, the price and the time between themselves. Each of them is responsible for the legal obligations that come with that work, including tax on what they earn, any licences the work needs, and health and safety on site.

3. Your account

3.1 Who may use PeaceJob

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement. A company account must be opened by a person authorised to act for the company.

3.2 Signing up and signing in

You create an account with a South African mobile number or an email address and a password, or through Google or Apple sign-in where the app offers it. A mobile number can also receive a one-time sign-in code by SMS. Keep your password, and access to your phone and email, to yourself.

When you sign up you choose a role:

3.3 You are responsible for your account

Everything done through your account is treated as done by you. This includes bids, messages, bookings, payments, reviews and disputes, and it applies even if someone else used your account, for example a family member, a friend or a field agent who helped you set up or use the app on your phone. If you let another person use your phone or account, you remain responsible for what they do with it.

If you believe someone has used your account without your permission, tell us at support@peacejobapp.co.za straight away. Nothing in this clause makes you responsible for something caused by our own failure, or for anything the law says you cannot be held responsible for.

4. Verification

PeaceJob asks for documents so that a person at PeaceJob can check who is behind an account. What we ask for depends on the account type.

4.1 Individual accounts

4.2 Company accounts

4.3 Your promises about what you submit

By submitting documents or details you confirm that:

Once you submit, your documents are locked while a person reviews them. If they are rejected, you can correct them and submit again.

4.4 What "verified" means

A verified account means a PeaceJob reviewer looked at the submitted documents and was satisfied. PeaceJob does not currently check documents electronically with the Department of Home Affairs, CIPC or SARS. Verification is not a guarantee of anyone's identity, honesty, qualifications or work.

4.5 False or misleading information

If you submit forged, altered, borrowed or misleading documents or details, we may suspend or close your account immediately and keep the documents as evidence. We may report suspected fraud or identity theft to the South African Police Service or another authority.

5. Gigs, bids and bookings

You must describe work honestly, only bid on work you can do safely and lawfully, and follow the health and safety rules that apply to the site.

6. Payments, wallet and escrow

6.1 Deposits

You pay into PeaceJob by card on a secure payment page run by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach PeaceJob. A single payment must be between R20 and R50 000, in South African rand.

6.2 Your wallet

Your wallet balance is PeaceJob's record of money you paid in that has not yet been used. It is not a bank account, does not earn interest, and is not protected by any deposit insurance. You can export a statement of your wallet from the app. A statement is a record of your PeaceJob wallet, not a bank statement or a tax invoice.

PeaceJob Wallet balances represent non-interest-bearing administrative ledger credits held in platform escrow solely for the settlement of completed Gigs. PeaceJob is a technology infrastructure provider, not a bank, deposit-taking institution, or financial services provider. Card payments are processed by Stripe, which operates the payment page and receives the card details directly; card data never reaches PeaceJob (clause 6.1). PeaceJob does not currently offer an automated payout or disbursement service: until it does, payouts and refunds are arranged individually under clause 6.5. Before any automated payout service is offered, it will be provided through an appropriately registered payment provider, and these terms will be updated and re-accepted first.

6.3 Escrow

When an Employer funds a booking, the booking amount is locked (held in escrow) and can no longer be changed. Held money is kept by PeaceJob until the booking is completed or a dispute about it is resolved. It is not released to the Seeker when the booking is funded.

6.4 Platform fee

PeaceJob's fee is 5% of the booking amount. It is taken from the amount paid out to the Seeker.

6.5 Payouts, withdrawals and refunds

In-app withdrawals are not available yet. When a booking is completed, or when a dispute decision requires it, PeaceJob pays out or refunds the money by arrangement with the person concerned, and records it in the wallet. This is done by our team, not automatically, so it is not instant. Contact accounts@peacejobapp.co.za about a payout or refund. A card refund goes back to the card it came from.

We do not currently offer automatic refunds when a booking is cancelled. A cancellation, or a payment that could not be matched to a booking, leaves the money in the payer's wallet until it is used or refunded on request.

6.6 Payment services we rely on

PeaceJob depends on Stripe, card networks and banks to take payments. We are not responsible for a delay or failure caused by them, except where the delay or failure results from our own negligence or the law holds us responsible.

7. Disputes about a booking

Either party to a funded booking can raise a dispute in the app, with a reason, before the booking is completed. While a dispute is open:

A PeaceJob administrator reviews the dispute, which may include the booking record, the messages between you, check-in records and anything either of you sends us. The administrator then decides whether the booking continues or is treated as complete, and gives a written reason to both parties. Any refund or payout that follows is handled as described in clause 6.5.

You agree to use this process first for a dispute about held money on PeaceJob. Our decision governs how PeaceJob handles the held money. It does not take away any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other law, including the right to complain to the National Consumer Commission or an accredited ombud, or to go to court.

8. Messages and notifications

9. Features that are not offered yet

The app mentions some features that are not available yet: cash vouchers (such as 1Voucher or OTT), cardless cash-out through banks and retailers, in-app withdrawals, and access to PeaceJob from a basic phone by USSD and SMS. These are shown as "Coming soon" or not shown at all. They are not part of these terms. Before any of them is offered, we will update these terms and the Privacy Policy, including the risks that come with third-party voucher, bank and mobile networks, and ask you to accept the update.

10. Rules for using PeaceJob

You must not:

11. Our intellectual property, and no scraping

The PeaceJob platform, including its codebase, user interfaces, branding, software architecture, and underlying technology, is the exclusive property of Mel Tech (Pty) Ltd. All rights reserved. Peace Job App (Pty) Ltd provides the service to you using that technology, and the PeaceJob name and logo are used with permission.

You may use the app only for your own use of the service. You must not, without our written permission:

You keep ownership of what you post: profile details, photos, portfolio pictures, gig descriptions, messages and reviews. You allow PeaceJob to store, display and process that content to run the service, for as long as it is on PeaceJob and as long as we must keep it (see the Privacy Policy).

12. What other users can see

When you set yourself as Online, other signed-in users can find you in the talent directory with your name, photo, skills, services, rates, verification status and approximate location (rounded to about 1 km, with the area name). For a company, this includes the company details and the contact person's name, phone number and email that you entered on the company profile. Turn Online off to leave the directory. The Privacy Policy explains this in full.

13. Availability and changes to the app

We work to keep PeaceJob available, but we do not promise that it will always be available or free of errors. It depends on mobile networks, internet access and third-party services, including Supabase, Stripe, Expo, Google and Apple. We may change, pause or remove features. If a change materially affects a booking that is already funded, we will tell the parties to it.

14. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits a right you have, or a liability we have, that South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act, does not allow to be limited.

Subject to that:

15. Suspending or closing an account

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other users at risk, or that we reasonably suspect is being used for fraud. Where it is safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you why. Money in the wallet of a closed account is handled under clause 6.5, unless we are legally required to hold it.

You can close your account yourself in App Settings → Close my account, or ask us to close it at support@peacejobapp.co.za. Closing is permanent: your profile is removed and you cannot sign in again with that account. A booking that is still in progress must be completed, or its dispute resolved, before your account can close. Some records must be kept after closure, as the Privacy Policy explains.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version number is shown at the top. When the terms change, the app will ask you to accept the new version before you continue to use the affected features, and the date and version you accepted are recorded on your account.

17. Law and courts

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. You may bring a claim in any South African court that has jurisdiction. Where the law allows, you and PeaceJob agree that a Magistrate's Court with jurisdiction may hear a claim even if its value is above that court's usual limit.

18. Contact

Questions about these terms: support@peacejobapp.co.za or +27 (0)72 223 0599.
